dress-up part two
When we arrived home today, the first thing Anna did (after telling me for the nth time that she wanted pizza) was to run to her play clothes trunk and tell me she was going to "play dress up, Mommy." Here are some shots from this evenings dress-up.

Another often heard phrase in our house is "I did it". Which is used whenever Anna accomplishes something, like spearing pears with a fork or spearing any food with a fork or putting on shoes (even if they are on the wrong feet) by herself. My girl is very independent and wants to try almost everything by herself.
I will have to admit that she is testing and pushing boundaries. The other day we were shopping for finger paints. We had what we needed and were headed for checkout, when Anna spied a stuffed monkey (the girl is monkey crazy). I told her to put the monkey back, which didn't happen. She then began to throw a fit because I wouldn't add to her monkey collection. My solution, I gave a warning that if she continued her unacceptable behavior everything was going back on the shelves. Well, she didn't believe me so I delivered and we walked out of the store with nothing - ok, she had nothing and I was carrying a screaming and crying child. Of course, being Anna, she was over the melt down within minutes. Just letting you all know that it isn't all hearts and rainbows all the time over here in Missouri.

what to do on a rainy sunday....
Well, the answer is play dress-up. After a quick trip to the store, Anna was the proud owner of a dress-up trunk that contained 3 skirts, 3 shirts, a tutu, a pair of shoes, and a couple of other items. All for less than paying for one Disney Princess dress. I also was creative and bought her a clearance Easter dress, a couple of sizes too big. It looks like a princess dress for a fraction of the cost.
When I stripped her for bath time - under the princess dress she was wearing three additional dress-up skirts and a top around her waist. No wonder she looks a little fluffy in a couple of these pictures.

National Geographic...

Today was Chinese School day. There were only two girls in Anna's class - Anna and Sarah. Since there were only the two girls (and their mothers), today was more about review and culture. We had green tea - which surprisingly, Anna really liked.
Anna has started to throw fits in stores if she doesn't get her way or an item she wants. My move is to pick her up and leave without any of the items I was willing to buy for her prior to the meltdown. I think it is starting to sink into her brain that she doesn't get anything if she misbehaves. We also have to work on listening skills.
But according to school - she behaves and listens well. Which means that she has decided that she only needs to behave for other people and not me.
Anna enjoys telling everyone she likes - on the way home from school or on the way or anytime during the day I will here: "I like Lori" "I like Nici" "I like Tonya" "I like Mia (as in Mia Gamble - aka Anna's bff)" and the list goes on. It usually includes all her teachers, several of her classmates, Mia, Remmie, Jake, and the neighbor's daughter, Katie. It is cute - until she tells more five times in a row that she likes Lori (or any other name).
Another accomplishment is that she is beginning to count items. Dogs are her favorite item to count. But she does also point out whenever we are passing cows.

Happy Earth Day....
Anna and I have started to be a little more eco-friendly. Here are our eco-friendly items:
* Recycling (cans, cardboard, plastic, glass, etc)
* Buying less plastic items, including toys. I read an article on a marine biology research who in research on shore creatures and sand was finding plastic pellets, which were the by-product of plastic manufacturing. The scary part, he was in a part of the world that doesn't have plastic manufacturing anywhere near the shore he was studying. So, less plastic in the house.
* Taking cloth bags to the grocery store, Target, etc. We are taking our own bags instead of getting plastic bags. I keep a stash of bags handy in the car.
* Buying organic and/or natural foods. We are buying and eating more organics. In May, after my next trip, we will start scoping out farmers' markets in the area.
Those are the items I can think of at the moment.

New shoes...
So, last Friday when I was down at the outlet mall by myself, I walked into one of the stores and saw the cutest pair of flip-flops for Anna. While they are very cute, I cannot barely believe that they were made for a toddler. Here are a couple of photos and you can judge whether toddlers should be wearing these shoes. Also, these are in-the-house-only shoes. Anna will not be wearing these shoes outside to play or go to school.

We have been free and clear of the Indianpolis house for two weeks!!! Closing was April 7th and the mortgage was paid in full on April 9th.

Busy weekend...
Anna and I stayed on the move this weekend. Saturday morning started with breakfast at Panera Bread...here is a photo of Anna peeking out one of the doors separating dining spaces.
Breakfast followed by a little shopping at Kohl's and then Target. We are starting to put together our care package to Beth and the twins (who should be arriving sometime in late August - early September). Happily, Beth is having a boy and a girl - which means I now have someone to take Anna's hand-me downs.
This is a photo of Anna watching for classmates to arrive at Chinese School, which was the event after shopping. In the event you are wondering about the outfit. Anna really wanted to wear her pink skort, but it was rather chilly - so, I let her picked out tights, and this was the result.
After Chinese School, it was off to do a little grocery shopping. Anna discovered the live lobsters in the seafood area of the store.
Today, we spent a few (more like 4) hours at the outlet mall at Osage Beach. I am happy to report that I am almost done with gift shopping for the year. Yes, I realize that it is rather sad that I have the majority of my Christmas shopping done and it is only April. But last year I was still shopping in December, which doesn't work for me. So, I would rather be done early and over buy than scramble at the end of the year.
Other news...we have transitioned back to sleeping in separate rooms. A couple of nights Anna has woken up around midnight, and being the slacker parent I am, I just put her back to sleep in my bed. But most mornings she sleeps until 5ish and then cuddles with me for an hour before getting completely up for the day.

Quick Post...
Because Aunt Jess is in withdrawal :) - I am giving you all a quick update.
1) Anna destroyed my camera - complete accident. But I have not yet replaced said camera - but will be shopping for a new camera on Friday, my day off.
2) I picked up Anna the other day from daycare and here is what she did that day. She had a poopie pull-up, but instead of telling her teacher she proceeded to do the following: she pulled out the offending poopie, throw the offending poopie on the floor, and stomped the offending poopie into oblivion. I couldn't stop laughing as the teacher told me this.
3) Today is trike day at daycare. So, yesterday, Anna became the proud owner of a pink & purple trike and pink helmet (I am trying to protect her brain). She loves both items and was not happy this morning when she had to leave the trike outside at daycare.
4) I am not the great spoiler in the family. Someone ask PaPa about his recent purchases for Anna and his promise to purchase her a wagon, because she asked for one.
On the wagon note....here is one cute picture rescued from destroyed camera...The work horse is Mia and checkout the freeloader.
